vlalbeharie.jpgVerna Lalbeharie is a Senior Program Director at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and coordinates the professional development work of the Digital Learning Collaborative. Prior to joining the Friday Institute in January 2008, Verna spent most of her career working on initiatives and research efforts that advance student success. Her work has focused on both secondary and post secondary education reform. She worked in an R&D capacity in the non-profit environment for eleven years, first at Jobs for the Future in Boston, MA and then at MDC, Inc. in Chapel Hill, NC. In both these positions, she worked on teams that managed large-scale, national, multi-component, and multi-year initiatives. Verna holds a B.A. in Psychology from Smith College in Northampton, MA and a M.Ed. in Cultural Diversity and Curriculum Reform from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA. ecoleman.jpgEmmy Coleman, is a Research Associate and co-lead of the Digital Learning Collaborative at The William & Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. Her primary responsibilities include managing and supporting coaching teams, strategic planning assistance for school and district leadership teams, and professional development opportunities for schools and districts participating in the North Carolina Learning Technology Initiative (NCLTI). Prior to joining the Friday Institute in November 2008, Emmy spent her career as a secondary English teacher, curriculum specialist and school administrator. She was the founding director of Warren New Tech High School in Warrenton, NC and is certified with the New Tech (Knowledge Works) Leadership Program. Emmy holds a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, highly qualified licenses in secondary English and principal leadership, and an MSA in Leadership and Administration from North Carolina State University. Sophia Stone, Ed.D., is a Research Associate with the Digital Learning Collaborative at the Friday Institute and develops online professional development programs for educators. In this capacity she provides collaborative leadership in the design of virtual learning initiatives for online professional development delivered to educators practicing in technology-enabled environments. Sophia has experience designing, developing, and implementing distance learning programs aligned to best practices in online learning and adult learning theory. In addition to her role at the Friday Institute, she serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Instructional Technology Program at NC State, teaching ECI 716: Design and Evaluation of Instructional Materials, a graduate level, web-based instructional design course. Prior to joining the Friday Institute, Sophia was Assistant Director for Distance Learning, Duke University, and taught EAC 583: Needs Assessment & Task Analysis, for the Dept. of Leadership, Policy & Higher Education at NC State. lisa.jpgLisa Hervey, PhD, NBCT is a teacher educator at The William & Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. Her work focuses on the creation and facilitation of both face-to-face and online professional learning opportunities around K-12 digital conversion and the development of teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) while practicing in technology-rich settings. She earned her B.S. in K-12 Special Education and K-6 Elementary Education from Central Michigan University and holds highly qualified NC licenses in both certifications. She achieved her National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification while teaching middle grades language arts for ten years at a public separate school in Raleigh, NC. Lisa acquired her M.Ed. in K-12 Reading and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, both at North Carolina State University. Currently, she designs, develops, and facilitates several graduate level online courses and online professional development courses for NCSU and Digital Learning Collaborative(DLC), respectively. Nancy Mangum is an Instructional Technologist working at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. Her role at the Friday Institute includes working with district leadership and principals across North Carolina to design and deliver training for educators as they work to create 21st century classrooms. Her specific interest is in ios devices and their role in our schools and have spent the last 2 years coaching teachers as they implement the devices in their classrooms. With over 12 years of experience as a classroom teacher, technology facilitator and district leader, Nancy is passionate a

Jaclyn Bell is an Instructional Technologist who began her career in education after her successful work as a media consultant and award-winning media designer in New York. Extending two years beyond her initial contract with the Nation's Teach For America Program, Jaclyn transitioned to the classroom where she taught English and Digital Media, as well as helped start a technology high school in its first two years of operation. While there, she assisted in the establishment of a school wide 1:1 Project Based Learning platform and has shared her experiences and best practices with educators and state administrators in a number of workshops and lectures around the country. As a Digital Learning Collaborative Project Coordinator, Jaclyn continues to assist educators in transitioning to a digital enhanced learning and teaching environment face-to-face, online, and via epiced.org, an online community of practice designed to assist educators through digital transition.

Brittany Burns is an online facilitator for the Digital Learning Collaborative who also fulfills multifarious needs of the Institute. She recently graduated Cum Laude with her Masters in Instructional Technology from North Carolina State University. She has a BA in English Education from North Carolina State University, and an alumni of both the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and Golden Key International Honor Society. She holds a NC license in Secondary English Education, Middle Grades Language Arts, and Instructional Technology and has taught a range of high schools courses from a literacy elective to AP English III. She is an active editor for the Cool Tools for Schools wiki, and is currently developing her own YouTube channel featuring Web 2.0 tool tutorials for teachers. To contact her: bpburns@ncsu.edu
